Harlow Renaissance and Harlow Council commissioned ACT to research a feasibility study and business case in respect of the redevelopment or replacement of the Harlow Playhouse.
The year-on-year cost increase of the Playhouse, the limited capacity and development potential of the facilities, the condition of the building, along with planning for the future and for the increasing audience and community needs, are the background to this study.
In common with other civic buildings in the UK designed in the 1960s, the Harlow Playhouse is now dated and limited in the acts it can accommodate, the range of activities it can support, and the facilities it can provide. The Local Plan recognises the need to expand the theatre and create a facility that will complement an improved entertainment and night-time offer.
The Study was completed in July 2008.
